System Supervisor
Responsibility and Duties
Staffing:
- Staff training and development.
- Direct contact with employment agencies with regards to staffing.
- Supervise all system operators, sorters, and system technicians.
- Project a positive and caring attitude toward all staff to help improve motivation and employee morale.
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and feedback to ensure team competency and engagement.
- Monitor employee attendance, performance, and adherence to company policies and safety requirements.
- Promote teamwork and accountability across all areas and sorting operations.
Operations:
- Develop a full understanding of the Single Stream Processing System and MRF Residue Processing.
- Monitor system performance to ensure steady material flow, minimal downtime, and optimal recovery rates.
- Ensure consistent quality control of all sorted commodities, maintaining targeted bale purity levels.
- Oversee and support system Technicians during stoppages, ensuring timely and safe restarts.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to prioritize and resolve equipment malfunctions, jams, and downtime issues.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of downtime reports and shift logs.
- Communicate shift performance, issues, and achievements to management and the next shift.
- Ensure timely response to system-related mechanical and electrical issues.
- Ensure all maintenance work within the system area is logged and completed safely.
- Verify that all guarding, safety covers, and lockout procedures are followed before equipment restarts and during production.
- Conduct system walk-throughs to confirm repairs are complete and the system is in safe operating condition.
- Evaluate and report daily downtime for system troubleshooting and process improvement.
- Meet Regularly with manager to discuss and evaluate monthly expenditures.
- Participate regularly in maintenance meetings to discuss maintenance issues and progress of Preventative Maintenance.
- Meet monthly with manager to develop action plans for future projects.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Enforce all GFL safety policies and ensure all staff are following safe work procedures.
- Conduct safety observations and immediately address unsafe acts or conditions.
- Ensure PPE compliance throughout the plant at all times.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations.
- Promote continuous improvement in workplace safety and system operation practices.
Job Specific Hazards:
- Exposure to varying temperatures (no climate control).
- Dust and debris — respiratory protection recommended.
- Eye injuries could occur due to various items on the sort line ie. glass. Safety glasses must be worn at all times.
- Forklifts/bobcats are a hazard when traveling throughout the plant. Be aware of your surroundings and always wear high visibility clothing.
- Trip hazards are present in your workstation and throughout the plant. Be sure to always keep your workstation clean and neat.
- Noise (hearing protection required where posted)
Employees are required to follow all GFL Environmental rules and regulations failure to do so could result in disciplinary action. This includes all Health and Safety standards as outlined by GFL Environmental.
