Safety Lane Inspection Tech

Position Summary

As a Safety Lane Technician, you are the frontline of our fleet’s reliability and the guardian of our drivers' safety. You will be responsible for conducting rigorous inspections of our specialized waste and recycling vehicles, ensuring every truck that hits the road meets stringent DOT regulations and company standards. This is a high-impact role where your attention to detail directly prevents breakdowns and ensures a culture of safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thorough Vehicle Inspections: Conduct comprehensive safety lane inspections on fleet vehicles to ensure total compliance with company standards, DOT regulations, and general roadworthiness.

  • Driver Mentorship: Verify that drivers are properly completing their pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Act as a subject matter expert by providing coaching or corrective guidance to drivers to improve their inspection habits.

  • Issue Identification: Promptly identify mechanical or safety hazards. You will document findings with high accuracy and communicate required repairs to the maintenance team to minimize downtime.

  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain meticulous inspection records. Ensure all paperwork and digital logs are completed in a timely, compliant manner for auditing purposes.

  • Safety Advocacy: Promote a robust safety culture by reinforcing best practices, standard operating procedures, and accountability among all drivers and site staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance, fleet inspection, or a related mechanical field.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA safety standards.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback to drivers and collaborate effectively with diesel mechanics.

  • Detail-Oriented: A "safety-first" mindset with a sharp eye for identifying minor mechanical issues before they become major failures.

  • Physical Ability: Must be able to work in a shop environment, including climbing in/out of trucks and occasional heavy lifting.
