Processing Facilities Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

Accountable for upholding the GFL safety service standards within the assigned division.
Coordinate services on site and oversee work performed for safety and quality excellence.
Daily supervision of all facility operations employees.
Perform field observations of personnel.
Identify operational problems by observing and studying system functioning and performance results; investigating complaints and providing suggestions for resolution.
Develop corrective actions to solve operational issues as they arise
Plan and schedule work for all aspects of the operations team at the facility.
Provide training for new employees.
Assists in the resolution of employee conflicts/ issues professionally.
Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and
procedures for treatment, storage, transportation, and disposal of wastes including
hazardous, non-hazardous, liquid and other chemical/special waste.

Assist in determining the best pathways for waste management including
wastewater, soils, hazardous waste, chemicals and byproducts of our processes.
Assist customer service and service teams to address customer requests and scheduling based on knowledge of the facility operations and status.
Coordinates between the GFL transportation team, other GFL facilities and third-party waste disposal destinations for outbound transport of waste.
Maintain the branch safety programs, documents and training programs.
Assist in reporting and investigating all near misses/incidents/accidents resulting in personal injury and or property damage.
Ensure the inspection and maintenance program for equipment/machinery in the facility is being followed and coordinate repairs and replacements as necessary.
Provide guidance and performance management to staff.
Monitor and maintain staff training records.
Prepare the daily schedule of facility operations on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
Assist in managing any HR concerns in unionized settings with direct reporting staff.
Attend meetings as required.
Oversee that all employees are adhering to company policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Key Competencies:

Experience and understanding of industrial and liquid waste industry preferred with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
Knowledge of TDG, Ontario Reg. 347 & 406, and Ontario Health and Safety Act is preferred.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
Possess superior organizational and people management skills of large teams.
Availability to work on-call rotation including evenings and weekends.
Proficient computer skills that must include Microsoft Office & Google suite.
Flexible with working extended hours.
Must be able to utilize required personal protective equipment (hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, safety footwear).
Able to work outdoors, exposed to the ambient weather conditions.
Valid G License with a good driver abstract
