Job Description Summary
GFL Environmental Services in Thunder Bay is seeking a dedicated Yard Coordinator to support our Portable Washrooms and Septic Divisions in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Focused on operational excellence, this role is critical to minimizing downtime between product sanitation and client delivery. You will ensure all portable toilets, handwash stations, and trailers are thoroughly sanitized, maintained, and strategically organized to meet a rigorous delivery schedule. Beyond physical coordination, you will oversee monthly inventory management, including supply procurement, reporting, and maintaining a high standard of workplace cleanliness and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
● Oversee daily porta bay and porta yard operations, ensuring cleanliness and organization of
the areas.
● Organizing and assigning yard locations for trailers, porta units.
● Prioritizing equipment cleaning and unit maintenance for bookings. This includes deep
cleaning, scrubbing, de-scaling etc.
● Troubleshoot, resolve potential problems and report damages before they result in service
issues, this includes minor repairs to trailer towing vehicles.
● Delivery of washroom trailers (multiple sizes), porta potties, and hand washing stations.
● Trailer hook-up and towing of all trailer sizes on site. (possible towing required to client sites)
● Aid drivers with loading, unloading, and inspecting equipment.
● Work with Supervisors, communicating and coordinating cleaning and repairs.
● Work with schedulers coordinating upcoming deliveries, pickups, grease trap services.
● Collaborate with team members to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
● Maintaining accurate inventory records of equipment, supplies, and materials in the yard.
● Maintaining yearly safety, inspection logs, unit keys and locks
● Performing general yard maintenance tasks like grass cutting, gravel upkeep, and snow
removal.
● Ensure compliance with safety standards while performing heavy lifting and cleaning duties.
● Work with Supervisor establishing or implementing policies and procedures for all
porta/septic staff.
● Preparing reports on incidents, accidents, and suspicious activities.
● Communicate with field team and administration building business
● Interact with customers, co-workers and other leads/supervisors.
● Respond to inquiries or complaints and resolve problems.
● Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Key Competencies:
● Class G Driver's License
● Minimum 2 years of experience in cleaning or custodial services.
● Perform heavy lifting as required and operate on site equipment (dollys, pressure washer,
forklift, snow plow/shovel, washing machine and dryer).
● Ability to manage time effectively, multi-task, prioritize tasks and problem solve.
● Demonstrate reliability and attention to detail in all tasks.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Strong customer focus.
● Proficiency in the Google Workspace is an asset.
● Works under minimal supervision.
● Experience in the transportation or waste management industry would be an asset.
