National Accounts Collections Specialist
Summary
The National Accounts Collections Specialist is a high-impact role responsible for the strategic recovery of revenue across GFL’s most complex, high-revenue portfolios. Serving as a professional financial liaison for corporate clients and third-party brokers, this individual ensures cash flow is maximized through meticulous account reconciliation, proactive dispute resolution, and cross-functional collaboration. This is sophisticated B2B portfolio management that requires a balance of analytical rigor and elite communication.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor accounts to identify overdue payments, risk, and prioritize collections efforts.
Initiate contact with brokers to inquire about payment status and resolve outstanding balances.
Satisfy company goals while remaining realistic for the broker to secure payment commitments and resolve systemic delays.
Utilize inter-departmental relationships and communication to resolve disputes and misalignments.
Maintain meticulous notes in the relevant accounting software regarding all customer interactions, payment promises, and follow-up actions.
Resolve billing discrepancies or customer disputes that are delaying payment.
Ensure ethical and legal collection practices.
Meeting or exceeding recovery targets for delinquent accounts.
Maintaining a low error rate in account documentation and communication.
Exhibiting execution of productivity plans resulting in measurable progress towards long-term and short-term goals while maintaining a low rate of meaningful customer and colleague complaints.
Work closely with teams like finance, sales, and operations.
Requirements
Education: 4-year degree or equivalent professional experience.
Experience: Diverse industry and experience background preferred. Professional data analytics experience preferred. Customer Service, Collections, or Accounts Receivable experience encouraged.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop and strengthen positive relationships while maintaining boundaries.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in the Google Workspace platform (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and/or Microsoft Office Suite.
Data analytic experience preferred.
High level of accuracy in data entry and financial record keeping.
Ability to learn and adapt to new environments and remain calm and professional under pressure.
High-level interpersonal skills, ability to work well with others and maintain a positive work environment.
Motivated self-starter, a strong ability to plan and execute day-to-day productivity to achieve long-term and short-term goals.
A strong sense of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance standards.
Self-starter capable of independent decision-making and managing constant re-prioritization in a dynamic and evolving environment.
