Manager, Logistics – Rail & Barge (North America)
The Manager, Logistics – Rail & Barge (North America) is responsible for managing the planning, execution, and optimization of rail and barge transportation across North America. This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation operations while supporting supply chain efficiency, customer service, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides oversight to rail and barge transportation operations across North America while working directly with the regional rail and barge operations
Ensure on-time, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods
Negotiates with railroads, barge operators, terminals, and transload facilities
Support carrier sourcing, rate negotiations, and contract management for both rail leasing and carriers
Monitor carrier performance, service metrics, and operational KPIs
Analyze freight spend, demurrage, detention, and dwell time; drive cost-reduction initiatives
Ensure compliance with all barge logistics and it relates to UMO and finished product, safety, and environmental regulations
Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Service, and Finance
Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
5–8 years of transportation or logistics experience with rail and/or barge exposure
Knowledge of North American rail and inland waterway networks
Experience working with transportation contracts and carriers
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Past working experience with National rail company, major logistics company, logistics software development company
Preferred experience in liquids transport industry.
Reverse logistics experience
Experience in commodities,liquids being assets, chemicals, agriculture, energy, or manufacturing
Strong analytical skills and proficient computer skills
Self starter and proven ability to work independently
Experience mentoring or supervising team members
