Implement: Operating under the guidance of senior HR team member, the individual will
perform a balance of administrative tasks while providing support for assigned client groups
regarding interpretation and adherence to established HR processes alongside supporting the
effective conclusion of employee relations and legal matters.
Create: Expected to identify areas for improvement and may participate in special projects as
assigned, using internal policies and processes.

Job Duties
- Aims for alignment with established GFL HR protocols when overseeing day-to-day HR functions and programs, employee relations, and performance management.
- Using internal policies and processes, the HR Generalist will advise managers and supervisors on legal concerns regarding discipline, terminating, hiring, and promoting employees and other human resource issues. They will provide advice and recommendations to managers on performance management processes, progressive discipline strategies, performance improvement plans, litigation, and termination management.
- Act as mediator, counselor, and facilitator in arbitrating disputes between employees and their managers/supervisors.
- Ensure legislative compliance and adherence to Operational and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Support in labor relations programs, policies, and procedures; Plays a supporting role in grievance meetings and arbitration. Participate in the collective agreement renegotiations/negotiations. May support Director of LR/HR in preparing union proposals ahead of negotiations.
- Prepare requested/established HR reports, related to employee demographics, turnover, HR initiatives, etc.,
- Develop sound relationships with management to understand business needs and deliver effective and efficient HR services.
- Partner with corporate, regional, and area leadership in designing and implementing HR programs that support business direction and HR strategies.
- Interpret policies and procedures for employees and managers.
- Provide feedback on employee morale to the HR Manager and/or Director of HR and field management.
Requirements
- 2+ years of progressive experience in a human resources generalist role.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources or related field of study
- Knowledge and experience in labor relations, employee retention, and human resources policies and practices.
- Understanding and knowledge of current provincial employment standards.
- Proficiency with Google and/or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems (MyWorkday preferred).
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively at all levels of the organization, and influence change by building and leveraging professional working relationships.
- Experience working in a dynamic operational environment; comfortable with the need to re-prioritize tasks when required.
- Travel to various sites may be required (20%).
