Key Responsibilities
Route Excellence: Safely operate a commercial front-load truck along designated commercial and multi-family residential routes, mechanically collecting solid waste and transporting it to post-collection facilities.
Precision Maneuvering: Masterfully navigate truck placement, using mirrors and precise driving skills to back into tight spaces and manage minimum clearance enclosures (distances of 120+ feet).
Site Management: Efficiently access enclosures or gates. When necessary, safely position 3-to-4-yard wheeled containers on castors for dumping. Keep a clean customer site by clearing any loose debris that spills during the dumping process.
Safety & Pre-Trip Inspections: Complete daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, submitting comprehensive Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) to ensure your truck is always road-ready and compliant with DOT regulations.
Customer Service: Act as the face of the company on your route, courteously interacting with business owners, property managers, and the public to resolve quick questions or report route issues back to management.
Technology & Compliance: Use key maps and GPS to maintain maximum route productivity. Maintain accurate daily route logs and productivity sheets in full compliance with company, federal, and state/provincial rules.
Requirements
Licensing: Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of commercial truck driving experience OR a certified CDL school certificate.
Safety Standard: Must meet all relevant DOT and company criteria for safety-sensitive functions and demonstrate top-tier skills in safe truck and equipment operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Equipment Mastery: Strong working knowledge of commercial truck components and the preventative maintenance required for safe operations.
Spatial Awareness: Exceptional ability to control heavy equipment, back up long distances using mirrors, and visually scan sites for loose debris or hazards before and after dumping.
Material Awareness: Ability to identify and reject unacceptable waste materials (e.g., flammables, gasoline) to protect yourself and the equipment.
Physically Fit & Driven: Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs. repetitively using proper lifting techniques. Excellent limb coordination while sitting or standing.
Adaptability: Clear communication skills, the ability to follow oral and written instructions, and a commitment to continuous route improvement.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
On the Move: This role requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, and entering/exiting the truck multiple times a shift to open enclosure corrals or secure loads.
Behind the Wheel: Comfortable sitting for up to 75% of the shift while navigating high-traffic routes and tight spaces.
The Elements: 100% outdoor working environment. You will be exposed to motor vehicle traffic, loud noise, vibrations, and changing weather conditions (heat, cold, rain/storms) depending on the season.
Strength Requirements: Regularly lift/move up to 25 lbs., frequently move up to 50 lbs., and occasionally handle up to 100 lbs. (or push up to 300 lbs. on castors).
