Summary

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial results through rigorous P&L management, and variance analysis. This role partners closely with Operations and cross-functional teams to oversee revenue/cost recognition and deliver timely month-end reporting. The ideal candidate is a disciplined professional capable of managing diverse accounting tasks—from journal entries to KPI reporting—within a growth-oriented framework.

This position is on-site and based out of our GFL Acheson office. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with the Operations managers to perform the monthly closing of P&L (Profit & Loss) activity, including investigation of variances between expected and actual results.  

  • Lead monthly and quarterly P&L reviews with Operational Managers.  

  • Preparation of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Tracking, posting, and reconciliation of intercompany transactions.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams on revenue and cost recognition requirements and analysis.  

  • Support preparation of budgets and forecasts.

  • Support financial reporting deliverables for month and quarter end.

  • Monitor and maintain monthly prepaid schedules including adjusting entries.

  • Provide variance analysis of results on a monthly basis and quarterly basis in accordance with head office deadlines.

  • Track and report on KPI’s.

  • Lead and support delivery of assigned projects.

  • Ensure transactions are in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as required. 

Education, Qualifications and Experience 

  • Degree in Finance or Accounting and working toward their CPA qualification is required.

  • 2 years of Finance or Accounting experience is required.

  • Experience with Workday and Google Suite Workspace is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to details.

  • Able to support closure on a tight schedule and provide timely analysis of results.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present to a variety of audiences.

  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
