Dispatcher

Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma required (post-secondary education or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or call center customer service is an asset); 1–2 years of experience in transportation, dispatch, or customer service.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) with fast, accurate typing skills. Experience with TRUX waste management software is an asset (or a strong willingness and aptitude to learn).
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills across phone, email, and two-way radio devices, with a strong customer focus.
  • Problem-Solving & Organization: Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize high-volume tasks, and troubleshoot service issues proactively under pressure.
  • Flexibility & Schedule: Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including occasional weekends as operational needs require.

Responsibilities:

  • Route Scheduling & Dispatching: Schedule service, handle customer service change requests, and dispatch calls to drivers based on designated routes and real-time driver locations.
  • Route Optimization: Collaborate closely with routing specialists and operations team members to optimize daily routes for maximum efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Driver Check-Ins & Paperwork: Perform end-of-day driver check-ins, distribute and collect route sheets, and review documentation to ensure complete and accurate data entry.
  • Customer & Issue Resolution: Field incoming calls and emails from customers, troubleshooting and resolving delivery or pickup problems before they become service issues.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Communicate effectively with maintenance shop personnel, sales teams, and operations staff to resolve service issues and maintain clear role alignment.
  • Staffing & Operations Support: Assist leadership in determining daily driver staffing levels to maintain the optimal balance between customer responsiveness and route productivity.
  • Information & Data Management: Accurately record and document operational information from drivers and route logs, ensuring prompt distribution to appropriate internal departments.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional operational support responsibilities as assigned by management.
