Disability Management Specialist

The Role

We are looking for a talented Disability Claims Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will manage full-cycle short-term and long-term disability claims. You will work closely with Employees, Direct Managers, Vendors, Operations, HR, and other stakeholders to process STD and LTD applications, focusing on early and safe return to work, accommodation, and modified work. The role reports to the Manager of Disability Management.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-Cycle Claims Management: Manage full-cycle short-term and long-term disability claims, facilitating the application process by working closely with employees and direct managers to explain the process and gather assessment information.

  • Return-to-Work Coordination: Partner with external vendors to determine appropriate return-to-work goals, coordinate return-to-work meetings, and actively support the planning process between employees and supervisors (intervening when necessary).

  • Training & Development: Develop and implement disability management training sessions for the organization.

  • Trend Analysis & Reporting: Prepare detailed statistical trend analysis, develop regional injury/trend reports, and expedite monthly reports using graphs and charts.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with vendors, operations teams, HR, and stakeholders to focus on early and safe return to work, accommodations, and modified duties.

What We’re Looking For 

  • Experience: 2–3 years of experience in an HR function, with exposure to disability management.

  • Education: College Diploma or University Degree specializing in Human Resources, with an interest in Disability Management.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization; strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; self-starting, proactive, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Bonus Points: Comprehensive knowledge of disability management, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, and the Employment Standards Act.
