Diesel Mechanic

Position Overview

As a Diesel Mechanic, you will work alongside shop leadership and senior mechanics to keep our diverse fleet of Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles operating in peak, "road-ready" condition. You will handle everything from standard preventative maintenance and electronic diagnostics to complex mechanical repairs in a safe, fast-paced shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Fleet Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, CNG systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.

• Inspections: Conduct thorough DOT and brake inspections to ensure full safety compliance across all fleet vehicles.

• Brake & AC Service: Perform routine and complex brake system repairs and service A/C systems using standard electronic diagnostic software.

• Road Testing: Test-drive trucks as needed to accurately diagnose issues and confirm repairs.

• Shop & Administrative Duties: Log work orders, manage parts inventory, maintain clean work bays, and adhere strictly to OSHA and GFL safety protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel and/or CNG fleet maintenance.

• Certifications Required: Brake Safety Certificate and EPA Section 609 A/C Certification.

• Tech Savvy: Proficiency with electronic diagnostic software and basic computer systems.

• Driver’s License: Valid Class A or B CDL strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire). ASE certifications are a strong plus.

• Safety First: Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations, with a strong commitment to shop safety.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and maneuver in tight shop spaces for extended periods.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and push/pull up to 100 lbs.

• Comfortable operating heavy equipment, power tools, and computerized diagnostic units.
