Summary

As a Class 1 Driver, you will play a key role in visiting client sites using dry van and flatbed trailers to safely collect and transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. Leveraging your strong safe-driving record and knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), you will assist with container labeling, verify shipping documentation, and ensure full regulatory compliance. We are seeking a dedicated professional who brings a high standard of safety, customer service, and teamwork to our team.

This position is Monday through Friday and will be based out of Edmonton, AB. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate all assigned equipment, vehicles, trucks, and trailers, maneuvering them effectively into tight loading and unloading positions.
• Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in optimal working order.
• Promptly report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or equipment damage to management.
• Oversee cargo handling, ensuring all bins, drums, and materials are safely loaded, secured, and transported using equipment such as drum dollies and pallet jacks.
• Accurately identify, classify, and handle various types of hazardous waste in accordance with safety standards.
• Complete and verify regulatory government paperwork, including waste manifests and bills of lading.
• Strict adherence to all applicable legislation, including Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Transport Weights & Dimensions, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), and Driver Hours of Service (electronic logbooks).
• Professionally represent GFL on all client sites, delivering products and documentation in a courteous, timely manner while actively identifying opportunities to expand services.
• Communicate clearly and effectively—both verbally and in writing—with customers, the general public, and team members.
• Actively participate in routine safety meetings, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and Last Minute Risk Assessments (LMRAs).
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall operations.

Requirements

• Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License with a clean commercial driving abstract.
• Proven experience hauling both Dry Van and Flatdeck trailers.
• Ability to operate manual transmission is required. 
• Confident and skilled in driving in all weather conditions, including experience chaining up (asset).
• Willingness to travel and perform out-of-town work (LOA provided).
• Forklift or Moffett operating experience is a strong asset.
• Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs with good manual dexterity for loading, unloading, and securing cargo.
• Proficient in completing manual paperwork as well as utilizing mobile apps and computer systems.
• Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and site-specific drug and alcohol screenings.
• Safety certifications (First Aid/CPR, CSTS, TDG, H2S Alive) are an asset; in-house training will be provided if needed.

• Physical requirement: Manual dexterity and the ability to safely lift and carry 50+ lbs.
• Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as operational needs require.
