Business Development Manager - Southeast

The Business Development Manager will identify, develop, and maintain strategic client relationships across the assigned territory. Because GFL specializes in dredging, dewatering, and chemical/polymer treatment services, experience in these areas is considered a major asset.

This role requires a self-driven individual capable of working remotely, managing a large territory, and representing GFL professionally during site visits, presentations, and client meetings. The ideal candidate is proactive, disciplined, and comfortable working independently while staying aligned with team objectives.

You will collaborate closely with sales, operations, marketing, and technical teams to prepare proposals, interpret RFPs and engineering drawings, and support accurate project estimates.

This position plays a crucial role within our U.S. sales organization.

Key Responsibilities

· Identify regional opportunities for dredging and dewatering services across industrial, municipal, and commercial sectors.

· Develop and execute strategic plans to expand GFL’s market presence in the South and East Coast.

· Qualify new leads, uncover client needs, and propose customized solutions aligned with GFL capabilities.

· Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships while driving new business development.

· Conduct market analyses, gather competitive intelligence, and share insights with internal teams.

· Review and interpret RFPs, engineering drawings, and contract documents.

· Prepare and deliver professional presentations to potential clients.

· Collaborate with internal departments to develop high-quality proposals and project estimates.

· Maintain accurate tracking of opportunities and client communications using CRM tools or approved platforms.

· Represent GFL at meetings, conferences, site visits, and industry events.

· Travel frequently throughout the territory (approx. 50%, variable depending on project opportunities).

· Uphold GFL’s health and safety culture when entering industrial sites, mills, refineries, and lagoons.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education & Experience

· High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.

· Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, demonstrating strong client management and commercial acumen.

· Experience in the dredging and dewatering industry is a major asset and will be considered a strong advantage.

· Experience in marine construction, industrial maintenance, or environmental services is an asset.

· Experience working in industrial environments (paper mills, refineries, utilities, wastewater facilities) is advantageous.

· Engineering or technical background is an asset.

Technical Skills

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) required.

· Experience with Microsoft Project — preferred.

· Ability to understand technical information and communicate it clearly.

· Strong writing skills for proposals, reports, and client communication.

· CRM usage experience and strong discipline for documentation and reporting.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· High degree of professionalism when interacting with clients and facility personnel.

· Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.

· Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

· Strong time-management skills and ability to structure workdays autonomously.

Additional Requirements

· Ability and willingness to travel extensively across the assigned territory (up to 50% or more during peak periods).

· Ability to work remotely with discipline, structure, and consistent communication.

· Ability to make cold calls and market our services to new and potential clients.

· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record meeting GFL insurance requirements.

· Valid passport or ability to obtain one for cross-border travel (training, team meetings, etc.).

· Commitment to following safety protocols while visiting industrial sites.

· Ability to complete safety orientations and required training for facility access.
