The Route Supervisor will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the Company’s transportation requirements and patterns. They will review and process day to day operations under specific municipal collection contracts.


  • Providing direct supervision of all drivers, ensuring ongoing training requirements, discipline and procedural implementation

  • Acting as a liaison between the municipalities and the Drivers/Loaders, as well as with dispatch to ensure information regarding daily schedules, equipment and service requirements is efficiently relayed

  • Working alongside the Operations Manager and the HR Manager to maintain adequate staffing levels, including participating in interviews and pre-employment Road Tests

  • Conducting ongoing observational behaviour assessments/driver training to uncover any performance issues, and creating an action plan to correct

  • Tracking ongoing service/driver issues and documenting any discipline required

  • Attaining all of the necessary information regarding any issues by maintaining courteous, prompt and efficient customer relations with residents and municipalities

  • Organizing and approving driver vacation requests

  • Ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for all workers, and reporting any related issues immediately to the Operations Manager

  • Ensure company policy, systems, and industry related training is delivered to all drivers as needed

  • Performing Accident Investigations when company vehicles are involved in traffic accidents

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Valid class 3 license with a clean drivers abstract

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience, ideally with a large team

  • Preference will be given to those candidates with experience working with Residential or Commercial collection, transportation, and/or Operations

  • General understanding of, WHMIS and the Highway Traffic Act

  • Proficiency with performing pre and post trip inspections, as well as accident investigations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Capability to plan, prioritize and execute against tight timelines

  • Intermediate database, spreadsheet, and word processing skills within a Microsoft environment

  • Willing to work flexible hours
